Justin Moynihan is a Japanese American writer/filmmaker from Philadelphia, living in Los Angeles. His work typically features outsider romantics navigating an alienating world, and attempting to maintain their mental health amidst it.
Justin created the short animation Manly (2014), produced by Frederator Studios with his brother Jesse. His screenplay Bewilder Wildman was a semifinalist in Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards in 2019. His screenplay Fruit Boots was a quarterfinalist in ScreenCraft Action & Adventure Screenplay Competition in 2019. He completed the short film DirtBox (selected by Tokyo Cinemasters/awarded Juries Prize) in the spring of 2021. His screenplay Always Crying Always in Love won Honorable Mention in the Hollywood Scripts Awards in 2022. Additionally his band Make A Rising’s first album received a 7.9 from Pitchfork.
Justin’s developed animated projects for FX animation, Starburns Industries, Frederator Studios, VRV, SONY, and a video game for Bad Robot.
Justin’s current projects include festival submissions for a short film called Rescued, production on the feature Always Crying Always in Love, and development of two animated shows: Stuffies and Alone.
When not working on creative projects Justin roller skates (artistic/figure skating) and climbs rocks (retired mountain guide).
